First published in 1972, Car Styling has undergone two periods of suspension during its history. Last year, after a six-year hiatus, it returned in its original format, and two issues have since been released. The magazine continues to be published in a fully bilingual (Japanese-English) edition.
Since its debut, Car Styling has been cherished by automotive designers around the world. Under its new editorial direction, the magazine is led for the first time in its history by a professional car designer serving as Editor-in-Chief. The renewed Car Styling re-examines the automobile through the lens of design-questioning, analyzing, and ultimately dissecting the styling process itself.
Vol. 3 opens with an in-depth design analysis of the Ferrari Luce, one of the most talked-about concept cars in recent years. The issue also explores the latest generation of Japanese mid-size SUVs and provides a detailed design review of the BYD Rakko, the Chinese automaker's kei-class electric vehicle developed specifically for the Japanese market.
The magazine further examines key trends presented at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show, accompanied by exclusive interviews with three of China's leading automotive design executives: Tianyuan Li (Xiaomi), Anthony Lo (BAIC), and Wolfgang Josef Egger (BYD). They discuss how each views the identity, philosophy, and future direction of their respective brands.
Additional features include design analyses of the Nissan Juke and the Nissan Terrano PHEV Concept, the magazine's first-ever motorcycle design feature since its relaunch, and an exploration of Canon's product design, expanding Car Styling's perspective beyond the automotive world to the broader field of industrial design.
